How to Pick a Good Wine for a Special Event

Wine drinking is one thing many people enjoy especially at a party or event. Whether it be a white or a red, there’s always one from around the world that goes perfectly with a meal and occasion. For special events such as Weddings, Corporate & Private Parties the cater should hold a good selection in the cellar.

So, if you have no clue on which wine to pick, below is one for each type from different parts of the world that is perfect for any occasion.

How to pick a good wine from the Northern Hemisphere:

French wines

White

Sancerre Les Baudrieres

A crisp, dry wine with citrus and gooseberry flavours balanced by restrained mineral elegance. Most popular of Loire Sauvignons and demonstrates the quality of wines from that region. Great with seafood or as an aperitif.

Red

Cotes du Rhone Les Galets

A spicy red wine with succulent red and black berry fruit flavours. Not overly full bodied but with a long and rounded finish. Galets are found in the Rhone Valley and are large pudding stones which are used to store heat and provide good drainage. Perfect wine for party canapes or red meat dishes due to its spicy hints.

Italian

White

Monte Schiavo Verdicchio

Highly recommended summery dry wine, great as an aperitif or with light snacks served outdoors. The taste invigorates the palate with its lime and pineapple flavours and a crisp finish. Verdicchio is created from over 35 growers and is the signature wine of Italy from the Marche region on the Adriatic coast.

Red

Valpolicella Classico Superiore, Veneti, Negrar, 2006

The Veneto wine region in north-eastern Italy produces the most famous of Italian wines named the Valpolicella in par with Chianti wines. It is a blend of three grapes from that region called Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. A mid-bodied, fruity wine with an aroma of cherry, equally tasty slightly chilled on a hot summer’s day or drunk at room temperature.

Marques de Caceres Rioja Blanco, 2007

This wine goes well with pasta and risotto dishes. Light gold in colour with mild scents of floral and green apple aromas. A light bodied, refreshing fruity wine with medium acidity and a hint of pepper.

Red

A rich, dark mid-bodied wine of plum fruit and spicy vanilla. Highly recommended and great value for money from the Rioja Alta region of Spain. Can be drunk on its own or with robust dishes. Rich and complex yet smooth and delicious.
